Gallery!

I've added a link to my deviantART gallery on the right. The image of the dragon links directly to the gallery.

Ta Ta For Now

To anyone who still checks in every once in a while-

I'm sorry that I haven't posted in forever! Regrettably I probably won't be able to post much - maybe not at all - until late December or January. I'm moving far away, and even my precious art supplies are all packed up.

See you in a couple months!

Frankie- finished!

Remember the WIP post of a few weeks ago? Well here's the finished drawing. Frank Sinatra, pencil and paper.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

...Well....

It's sad, but I don't think I can keep doing the post-a-day challenge. Things are a bit too busy now. I'll try to keep posting acceptably often, though.

Skull Sketches

This was supposed to post yesterday, but it was raining and I couldn't upload it.

Today's post is coming later.

A Quick Post

Well you can't say I didn't post. A quick sketch of an octopus on someone's hand. It seems I didn't pick the best time to start a post-a-day regime. Things are a bit insane.

Ah, well.

Robot Love

I won't have time for any masterpieces today, so here's a doodle of a robot hugging a battery.

I'm thinking about having this turned into a greeting card or a t-shirt. hmm.

Frank Sinatra WIP

The first sketch for my Frank Sinatra portrait. It has a lot of issues right now, I know, but don't be too mean.

resolutions and white pencil sketches

You know what? I'm going to post every day for a month. It's just going to happen. From here till October 14.

Yep.

Here to kick things off are a couple sketches I did in white pencil on dark card stock.

Goose Girl

I completed this art doll on Saturday. One piece in one week- that's the fastest I've ever sculpted!

More pictures of the goose girl coming soon.

New Sculpt

I'd initially decided not to show a lot of progress pictures on this one, but I'm just so excited about how she's coming along that I had to share this with you.

Blue Eyes

Here are the eyes I made for my next sculpture. I'm really excited for this one!

Puck

I put the finishing touches on the sculpture just this morning and took him outside for a few snapshots. Allow me to introduce Puck, a mischievous fairy.

More pictures coming soon!

Friday, August 12, 2011

The sculpture is almost done! I'm so excited! Hoping to post pictures of the finished project as soon as Saturday.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to decide what color hair he should have. Red or brown?

Blog Changes

You may notice that things are looking a little different. Or a lot different. I'm redesigning the blog, and have more changes in mind, so check in often.

Meanwhile, what changes would you like to see on the blog?

A Robin's Egg

This isn't for any particular project. I was just experimenting with pastels on clay and made this.

I haven't had a lot of time to work on art recently, but hopefully that will change in a couple weeks.

A Dancer

This is an old sketch imitating the style of one of my favorite writer/illustrators, Edward Gory.

Well, it's the last day of my post-a-day week! Hopefully this little exercise will help me remember to post more often in future.

Also, thank you so much to everyone who comments on my posts. I love reading the wonderful notes you leave me. After all, feedback is an artist's best friend!

A Mushroom

Why? Because I felt like it.

Polymer clay, 1/2 inch high.

Thursday, July 21, 2011

I wish I had some dazzling new bit of artistry to share today, but since I've mainly been working on my mostly-secret sculpture, I don't have a lot of things to post.
So here's a picture of some moss. It's not even real moss. I need convincing moss for the base of my sculpture, so I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do that today. I even trekked out into the woods to find some so I could compare it to different art supplies and see what would work best.
For the most part the trek was uneventful, but I did walk through a spider web and spend the next seven minutes dancing around and flailing my arms.

So, anyway.... I eventually came up with a technique using a couple different shades of wool roving, as shown above.

Sketching a Fox

Again with the late posting. I know.

So here's a fox. I might finish this sketch, or I might not.

WIP update

Here's a teaser, as promised.

I know it doesn't give much away, but then again, it's not supposed to. ;)

Some Kitties and a WIP Update

So, I realize this is really late, but at least I did post!

Today I spent a lovely hour outside with my ever-photogenic kitties. There are five siblings that like to follow me around, but the ones shown are Weasley (the orange one) and George, (the siamese one). And yes, those are both Harry Potter names.
There was also a butterfly in the garden, so I followed it around and took a few snapshots.

And now for a word on art. My current art doll WIP is a male sculpture that is taking forever. This is mostly because I keep getting frustrated and leaving it for days. Ah, well. I did sculpt today, though, and finished with his ears. I sculpted about seven ears before I was happy with them. I'm choosing to keep my progress mostly to myself on this one, but I may post a teaser photo now and again.

Of Ears and Seashells

Here's the deal. I'm going to post every day this week, come rain, shine, or craft disaster. To kick it off, have a shell and an ear.

The shell I picked up along the river when I was out with friends, and I had to have it for an art piece. I'll probably use it for an art doll of some sort.

The ear is a polymer clay "sketch" that I did a few weeks ago for practice. It's shown next to an earring for scale.

A few random tidbits

I may or may not be the most inconsistent blogger in the world. We'll see. However, to partially make up for such a long silence, I have some pretty cool things to share.

The robot is a drawing in graphite pencil that I did a while back and never posted.

The carnival bag fish is a necklace pendant about 1" tall. I may make more of these for sale.

The dragon ring is made from polymer clay over a wire armature. The more delicate parts are layered in translucent liquid Sculpey, which makes them quite durable and flexible, to avoid breakage. I also hope to make more rings of a similar concept for sale on Etsy or Ebay.

New Sculpture!

So here are a couple shots of the new art doll. Polymer clay with tussah silk hair and handmade eyes (not glass or painted on). She would be a little under eight inches tall standing, not including tail fin. More pictures will be up on the Selfish Kitty Facebook page here!

Saturday, June 18, 2011

So, you may have noticed it's been a while. Heh. Sorry about that. I have been working on my art more now that it's summer, and just finished another art doll. This is my third completed work, and I'll be posting pictures of it ASAP. :)
Thank you to anyone who's still keeping tabs on my blog!

It's finished! Hooray!

It was sunny out today so I took my spring nymph art doll outside and took pictures. There are a lot of things bugging me about this one, but it's only my second art doll, so I won't be too hard on myself.
This one is for sale. I'm asking $120 for it, so contact me if you're interested.
Additional pictures can be seen on my Selfish Kitty fanpage on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf#!/pages/Selfish-Kitty/109115139115803

The fateful day has arrived.
Today, I finally finished my snail-pace of a sculpt and cured it. After the curing I cleaned it with acetone, blushed out select areas, and covered it in finish. I'm currently working on finishing touches & costuming. Stay tuned!

Winter Wonderland

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. Ah, well. I'll be posting a WIP update pretty soon, but here are some lovely pictures I took in the snow a few days ago to tide you over.
