deviantART

Well, I've had a deviantART account for a few months, but wasn't really active until now. You can check it out here.

Starting Over

I have made the tough decision to start my current art doll over again. I'd invested a lot of time in it already, but there were several reasons screaming at me to start afresh.

1. The armature wasn't very practical, and I wanted to try that part over.

2. The clay was a mix of Super Sculpey and plain white Sculpey, and the effect didn't have the nice skin-like quality of clay that I wanted.
3. The clay was FILTHY. I don't know how that happened.
4. The dimensions/sculpting choices were a bit off, and I felt that I could do better if I started over.

So I scrapped the other doll, bought some lovely fresh clay for the next, and made a better armature.
This art doll will be the same subject and pose, just more well done. I really hope I can finish it by Christmas. Cross your fingers. ;)

Ta ta for now.

Adventures With Eyeballs

I made a pair of eyes for my current WIP weeks ago, but after a while decided I wasn't satisfied with them (eye no.1). So I made a new pair, using a different technique. Didn't work out so well, as you can see from eye no.2.

I worked some more on perfecting the technique, and tried again. Eye no.3. happened. It was better, but I still wasn't happy with it, which is why eye no.4. came along.

I like eye no.4 better than the others, but I'd gotten so engrossed in the eye-making process that the scale went completely out the window, and they were way too big. And so, I made eye no.5, the best yet.

A fascinating story, I know. Up next: A real WIP update.

WIP update

The winter fairy is coming along just fine. I haven't had much time to work on her in the past few weeks, but here are some pictures anyway.
Her head is looking a little creepy, but I promise that will change once her eyes are in.

Work in Progress

I've started another art doll! Here it is, only a wire armature thus far, modeled on some of its design plans. She's going to be a winter fairy, and will probably be for sale sometime in December.

I've just finished my first-ever art doll!!! Her name is Coral. As she is my first art doll, I've decided to keep her for myself. The next one will be for sale.

Treasury!!!

This is a really cute Etsy treasury that I got featured in. The rubber ducky earrings are the ones from my shop.

Plush Kitties

I recently sold these little kitties as a custom order. Hopefully I'll post more on Etsy in the near-ish future.

Random Sketchings

I was recently sick for a while, and didn't really feel like doing anything particularly productive, but I did doodle a little. These are some of the results. I'm not really sure what to do with them....

A Baby Dragon

This is a baby dragon that I sculpted a while ago. I refrained from naming him or else I'd never be able to let go of him, so he is in fact available on Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/listing/45786071/teeny-dragon-baby

He is about 1 3/4 of an inch long, sculpted from polymer clay. He also has a little nest in which to sit with his broken eggshells and unhatched brother or sister.

Yay!!!! I am so excited. Last night I got a polymer clay oven I'd had my eye on for a while. It's really nifty. I really wanted to try it out but didn't have any tiny teflon pans yet, so I used a piece of cardstock. Unfortunately that didn't work too well... as you can see by the huge, depressing burn mark on my hastily sculpted Tiny Head.

I also got a big, beautiful block of Super Sculpey, which is what I used for the experimental project. It is gorgeous and skin-colored and exciting. I am most happy. :)

I'll try to post pictures of something project-y and interesting soon, so check in!

Nina the Mouse

I haven't made an art doll yet- though I'm in the process of making one. This is the closest I've ever gotten: Nina the Mouse. She's about an inch tall, and I am terribly proud of her. I finished her weeks ago, but still haven't gotten the guts to put her up on Etsy.

I haz a blog!
